Evaluation Draft 1

Evaluation Question 1:

The title of my magazine is 'ALT' which is short for Alternative, the genre of music, so the target audience that is people who listen to alternate music and teenagers can quickly see what the magazine is going to be about. I used the font called 'Impact' to make the title stand out from other magazines and also so its visible to everyone and attracting people to magazine. The colour scheme i used is black white and some grey i did this because i wanted to give the music magazine a simplistic look, i also dressed my artist with a simple look where all you can see is the white top that she is wearing in all the photos. The text I have used on the front page apart from the title are simple fonts (Wicker Heavy SF, Accord SF) to keep the simple theme involved in the magazine they are also good fonts that link in with the artist and give her an even more of a simplistic but satisfying look and i have continued these fonts through to the contents page of my magazine. I changed the font of the article to 'Utsaah' to add more verity to the magazine and the font also keeps the simplicity involved in the magazine i also changed the colour of the text when millie was talking in the interview so you can tell the difference between the interviewers question and what her answers are.

I have laid out my front page so there is little on the front to keep to the simplistic look the way i have done this is by placing the name of the magazine at the top left in a large font 'Impact' to make the magazine stand out and noticeable and i have also made the featured artists name 'Millie Drew' large and centred so thats one of the first things you see when picking up the magazine but kept the artist name in a small simple font to mach here genre of music. the barcode and pricing are at the bottom right  where they normally are on most objects and magazines and the 'Issue Number' is at the bottom left so that more attention is drawn to the top half of the magazine. The magazines slogan 'New Bands Great Music' is in small underneath the title to allow you to recognise its a music magazine and also so that you get a feel of whats going to in the magazine when you open it.
The contents page is laid out with the text on the left and featured artist on the right, i got this idea from the existing magazine 'Spin'. The reason i used this was because the layout fitted the style of the magazine and genre of my artist allowing me to make the image of my artist stand out more.
The double page spread is laid out in a way so it focuses on my featured artist, i started the text at the bottom left of the page and didn't go above her eye line as well i placed part of her name behind her so that you got the feel she was important and meant more than words on a page. I also placed a quote from the artist part way through the article so you got a better feel of how she felt about the artist.

I didn't use any props in my magazine because i didn't feel it was essential and that it wouldn't improve how i showed my artist in any way or the genre of the magazine. I thought that i would be able to show my artist and the style of the magazine just with the camera angles and pictures of the artist and the fonts and colours used in my magazine. I represented my artist with the simple look of her just wearing a plain white shirt and her standing with a serious face positioned differently each time but at the same time keeping the same feel for the artist and genre.

Evaluation Draft 2

My Artist: Millie Drew                                       Alternative Artist: 'Daughter'

From the two images you can see some similarities and some differences such as the style of clothing, hair style and also the background. The style of hair doesn't really matter when it comes to representing the artist as long as its not too crazy e.g. spikes, shaven down hair so that it gives you the impression its a punk or rock magazine. The clothing i have used is less colourful than the picture of 'Daughter' because i wanted more attention to be drawn to the artist than her clothing but i could have changed what she wore to be more colourful but that might have taken the simplicity away and i thought the colour of her hair where it fades brought more of a variety and added the extra colour to the artist but kept it simple and looked good without having to have bright clothing or different styled clothing the backgrounds are different but once again on the grey and whit background it keeps with the colour scheme and keeps the simpicity. The similarity within the two artists are their facial expressions where they look serious but still show a slight bit of happiness allowing the audience to see that that they love music and take it seriously and try hard. In both pictures there is a mid-shot of them just showing their waste up so that it doesn't overcomplicate the artist or the image keeping the simplicity of the genre. Their positioning is almost similar to one another with their hands buy their sides but i have made my artist turn side on almost to create diversity between the images throughout the magazine and so that the audience doesn't get bored with similar images.

Evaluation Draft 3

If a company was to publish my magazine it would be 'BuzzMedia' because of the similarities with there  existing magazines like 'Spin' which i have taken inspiration from and put into my magazine (Contents Page) also their magazines are simple which is the same style as my magazine also the music involved in my magazine is similar to the ones published in their magazines.

Bauer would distribute my magazine because of the similarity and simplicity of their magazines such as 'Q' magazine which are simple and also use the same genre of music allowing my magazine to fit in with the magazines they distribute, also they are a large publishing company who distribute's big magazine names.

Evaluation Draft 4

My target market is teenager - adult and i think the teenager in this picture would buy my magazine because she looks Alternative to all the other teenagers, you can see this by the clothes and hairstyle she has chosen to pursue, the bow tie isn't a normal every day fashion accessory and the style of top she is wearing is almost old fashion from this you could call it an alternative styled clothing. Her hair is mid length which most alternative girl artists have so she would have picked up that style form who she listens too. She most likely watches comedy TV from america and soaps from there to e.g. New Girl, Desperate House Wives etc.

Evaluation Draft 5

On my front page i used the simplicity of alternative music and the featured artist to create the simple look of the magazine, i did this by using 3 main colours that all worked well with each other they were black, white and grey which also made my featured artist stand out on the front page of the magazine and linked in with the clothing that my artist was wearing which was a white top and she has dark brown hair with orange highlights at the bottom that linked in with the alternative genre.

On the contents page i have continued the colour scheme and fonts so that there is some constancy through the the magazine but kept the contents simple so that the genre is still there throughout the magazine. The layout of the contents page was taken from a similar alternative magazine 'spin' because they made their contents page look good with how it was laid out and how the genre fitted the layout also.
On the double page spread i have tried to attract the audience by focusing more on the featured artist as a person and giving lots of information about her i have also used the same colour schemes but changed the font so that the audience has a change through the magazine and doesn't get bored of the same font and layout. Where i have started the tex from the bottom left will give the audience more verity instead of looking left to right they will be ale to jump around the page which will also stop them from getting bored.

Evaluation Draft 6

When designing my magazine i had to use all types of technology to help make the magazine look how i wanted it to and to fit the Genre and style of the magazine.
The technologies i used are:

Camera: Nikon D3100 so that i could take high quality images of my artist for my magazine, i learnt that i had to take different shots of my model in order to get wider selection of images allowing

Tripod: I used the tripod to steady the camera to get a sharp image that wasn't blurred or distorted.

Lighting: I used lighting to create more or less shadow in my images depending on the style of my artist.

White Screen: because i didn't want any outside pictures or inside pictures (Home, restaurant etc.) as my backdrop i wanted to use a plain white background which enabled me to edit the background colour to what i would like or keep it how it was.

Photoshop: I used Photoshop to enhance the quality of my images and pice all aspects of my magazine together.

Microsoft Word: I used Microsoft word to write my article and also spell check if i thought I misspelt anything.

I used all of these to enhance the quality of my magazine and produce the best quality images and magazine as i could.

Evaluation Draft 7

When we started we were asked to make a magazine for school which was a preliminary task to help us see how the technology we would be using worked, it was also a chance to see how good we were at making a magazine and give us a taste of what its going to be like with the music magazine. Making the  magazine for the school also allowed me to see my progression through the magazines i made to what i have now and to see the difference in quality. From these i can see i have progressed a lot and I'm able to use the technology that i used at the start more effectively than i could at the beginning.

Final Music Magazine

Image Ideas For Pages

Front Page: on the front page my artists face will cover the whole page with a close up so the target audience and other age ranges outside of my target market focus on her and she is the selling point of the magazine.

Contents Page: The artist will be positioned to the right allowing the writing of the contents and where everything is to be on the left whilst still featuring the artist.

Double Page Spread: On the double page spread my artist will be positioned on the left page allowing room fro writing on the right page.
